The Treehouse

Cheshire Village, Black Mountain, NC
1289 square feet

*Recently selected as Home of the Month
Raleigh News and Observer

This low impact design includes a very small footprint (500 s.f.) that required minimal grading, preserving most of the vegetation and hardwood tress on the site. The home lives up to its name, blending softly into the hillside by use of curves, native stone, cedar shingles, and native landscaping. Outdoor rooms were created with covered porches and a terrace area carved out of the hillside. Inside, a loft-like interior includes clean, modern lines and ample windows to make the space uncluttered and spacious.

* The Treehouse was recently selected to receive the 2010 Home of the Month award and be featured in the Raleigh News and Observer. This award is a collaborative effort between the paper and NC State University’s School of Design through its home environments design initiative. The selections are chosen from houses across the state and bring attention to the value of good design in housing.
