Hawk’s Crest
This house had a first life as a vacation cabin; when the owners decided to move in permanently they chose to expand their living space while preserving the original structure. A bridge over the driveway now isolates the garage; it acts as an elevated nature walk through the trees while providing direction and a welcoming sense of entry to the main entrance. The addition was designed for entertaining and includes a master bedroom, home gym, kitchen, and formal dining room, while the former cabin now serves as a guesthouse. Blurring the line between inside and outside, the vaulted timber ceiling frame extends through the walls and over the outdoor porch, contrasting the more traditional wood frame. The great room literally encases the dining room with an interior roof, thus bringing some of the outside elements indoors as well.
